Unbeaten Hancock Girls Win By 40; Picayune Boys Rally In One-Point Thriller

The undefeated Hancock Lady Hawks beat the Picayune Lady Maroon Tide on Tuesday night 72-32 in Picayune in a Region 4 6-A basketball matchup. 

The Lady Hawks were once again led by Brooklyn Cuevas. who poured in 25 points.

Hancock came out of the gate firing and took an 18-7 lead after the first quarter and never let up. Jordan Bishop led the way in the quarter with six points.

Cuevas hit two 3-pointers in the quarter and finished with 10 points while Talana Bond also scored six points in the quarter, giving Hancock a 41-18 lead at halftime.

Hancock cruised in the second half on its way to a 40-point victory.

Laikyn Moore led Picayune with 13 points and three 3-pointers and did her part in trying to keep the Lady Maroon Tide in the game with 10 points in the first half. Sophomore Rhyen Goss added eight points for Picayune.

Hancock (11-0, 2-0) heads to Pascagoula on Friday night. Picayune (5-8, 0-2) will host Long Beach on Friday night.

Hancock got off to a good start led by Donte Taylor and Jude Ulrich. The Hawks were up 20-13 at halftime.

Then Picayune got it together and had a good surge in the third quarter led by Jordan Hathorne, who had seven of Picayune’s 17 points in the period.

Hathorne bombed a couple of 3-point shots in the fourth quarter to complete the rally and the intense victory for the Maroon Tide.

Hathorne finished with 15 points and the Tide’s Sanchez Goss added 10.

Picayune (8-2, 2-0) will host Long Beach on Friday night.

Taylor led Hancock with 13 points and Mike Washington tossed in 10 for the Hawks.

Hancock (5-7, 1-1) will travel to Pascagoula on Friday.
